NEWS January 30 – Israeli Terrorism Victims Win Landmark Bank Case
In a stunning victory for more than 1,600 survivors and family members of those killed by terrorism in Israel, U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon issued a major ruling that is expected to lead to a trial for their landmark civil action against Arab Bank.
Judge Gershon, while rejecting the defendants motion to dismiss, effectively stated that the plaintiffs had shown sufficient evidence that violence against civilians in Israel violate International law, that they have shown crimes against humanity and a cause of action under the Anti-terrorism act. She also stated that the plaintiffs had shown sufficient evidence that the “Arab Bank” provided means of money laundering to help finance the terrorists and that payments made to the families of suicide bombers could be regarded as an incentive.

NEWS January 22 – Russia and India to Conduct Joint Counter-Terrorism Exercises
INDRA-2007 is a joint exercise between India and Russia aimed at coordinating cooperative engagement in the fight against terrorism. The details of the upcoming joint Russian-Indian exercise will be discussed during a visit of Russian Defense Minister to India. The land part of the exercise is scheduled for mid-September at the training grounds of the 76th Airborne Division near the city of Pskov in north-western Russia, with the naval part to be held earlier in April 2007 in the Pacific Ocean involving the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Indian Navy. The last joint exercise was held in 2005.

NEWS January 14 – ASEAN to fight jointly against International Terrorism
The leaders of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, collectively known as The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), have signed an agreement, at a summit meeting, on a joint response to international terrorism. From now on the ASEAN members will hold joint exercises, share intelligence and combine efforts in response to terrorism. The summit is to be joined by China, India, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

NEWS January 6 – Soldiers to Guard UK Power Plants against Terrorist Attacks
Constant Home Office review has led ministers to consider using soldiers to beef up security arrangements at UK power plants. This review hasn’t come in response to any specific terrorist threat, although there were suggestions of intelligence reports showing al-Qaeda suspects showing an interest in various plants. A spokesman has said that the threat level to the UK has not changed and is still severe.

NEWS December 30 – Madrid Airport car Bomb attack Ends ETA Ceasefire
A car bomb blamed on the armed Basque separatist groups ETA has exploded at Madrid international airport, injuring 19 people and signalling the apparent end of a nine-month ceasefire. Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba reported that one person was missing after the blast, for which ETA claimed responsibility in one of an early morning series of anonymous telephone calls Saturday.
